Course Description

The Certificate IV in Building & Construction (Building) is designed to meet the needs of people working in the building industry and who aim to be builders and managers of small to medium-sized building projects.

This nationally recognised qualification will increase your knowledge and skills in the Residential Building Industry.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:

CPCCBC4002 – Manage work health and safety in the building and construction workplace

CPCCBC4007 – Plan building or construction work

CPCCBC4008 – Supervise site communication and administration processes for building and construction projects

CPCCBC4009 – Apply legal requirements to building and construction projects

CPCCBC4010* – Apply structural principles to residential and commercial constructions

CPCCBC4012 – Read and interpret plans and specifications

CPCCBC4014 – Prepare simple building sketches and drawings

CPCCBC4018 – Apply site surveys and set-out procedures to building and construction projects

CPCCBC4021 – Minimise waste on the building and construction site

CPCCBC4053 – Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for Class 2 to 9, Type C Buildings

 
BSBPMG422 – Apply project quality management techniques

CPCSUS4002 – Use building science principles to construct energy efficient buildings

CPCCBC4003 – Select, prepare and administer a construction contract

CPCCBC4004 – Identify and produce estimated costs for building and construction projects

Course Duration & Mode of Delivery

Australian Trade Skills offers this qualification by Full time Study or RPL.

Full Time Study course duration is for 104 weeks which includes 24 holiday weeks from the date of commencement of the course.

This course requires face to face interaction, with full time study requiring 20 hours of attendance per week.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Recognition is available to all learners of the RTO. An application for Recognition can be made on the Application for Recognition Form. Participants must be working in the industry and have the support of their employer.

Study Pathways

This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway. Learners who successfully complete this qualification may also pathway into further study options including, but not limited to:

  • CPC50210 – Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
  • Any other relevant qualification

Employment Opportunities

This qualification has employability skills. Participants may find employment in construction roles in businesses and other industries requiring building and construction qualification

Entry Requirements

  • be aged 18 years or over
  • be an existing worker in a building supervision role
  • have the support of their supervisor and employer
  • hold a minimum of a Higher School Certificate (or equivalent)
  • able to commit to the course duration and time commitment
  • Have already attained a “Whitecard”
  • Satisfactorily completed our Language Literacy and Numeracy assessment
  • Have a completed workplace support agreement, which confirms the resources required for training and assessment will be made available to the student.

Additional Requirements

Students will need to have an internet capable laptop.

Students will need this to access the learning and assessment material both in class and at home.
